The History of tilmanbauer.eu
The homepage that you see right now was by far not the first site I have built. My journey of representing myself began a long time ago when the internet was still a completely new thing. I was just about 12-13 years old when I built a very simple but stylish ;-) site with some general "hello world" texts. The site back then was already in three languages: English, German, and Finnish. For historical archiving reasons, I have copied this old site to my new domain, so that you can have a look at it. Please note that the site has not been updated since ten years or so!! Only the comments in yellow, slightly smaller font have been written in 2007. In addition to removing the ads from tripod, no other changes have been made. The old address used to be http://members.tripod.com/~TilmanBauer/ (now it redirects to tilmanbauer.eu).
Tilman's first site ever
Over the years, the above mentioned site fell into oblivion. (I recently found it again by accident with Google.) Only in 2002 I continued my career as a website builder. This time, it was a homepage dedicated to my exchange period in New Zealand. The contents were already much more sophisticated - it worked almost as a diary - but the site design was still rather simple. Unfortunately, I did not totally finish the texts. So this is what is left from my exchange in New Zealand:
Tilman's NZ site (link coming up soon)
After the NZ site, I again ceased keeping a site up-to-date. This was changed in 2006 when my father gave me an eu-domain as a present. It was back in April of that year when the eu-domains were released to the public and he suggested to reserve a domain quickly before it is taken by somebody else. This was when tilmanbauer.eu was born. First, I was a bit overwhelmed with having an own domain but no content whatsoever... I used the domain mainly for the pages of an HC event, which I organized in September 2006. (Click here for more HC events.) Only during the Christmas holidays in Iran (2006-2007) I developed the design that you can see right now. Earlier trials looked for instance like this. Since the beginning of 2007 I have been developing constantly the contents of my site. You see the results in front of you :-) (Actually, I made some minor changes [such as a graphical navigation bar] to the design on September 13, 2007.)
My aim is to never stop developing tilmanbauer.eu. I will try to constantly keep the pages up-to-date - and eventually I might be able to develop a new design, too. However, my html skills, let alone my css, php, or MySQL cognitions, are far from sufficient! (This site is the most I can do at the moment.) If you have any knowledge concerning web design - and you feel like helping me - please get in touch! Your help is appreciated a lot!!
Statistics:
From the graph and data table below you can see how many visitors have visited my site since September 2006. (I have copied this directly from my provider's Control Panel. I am not an expert but I THINK that "sessions" (the red graph) is the one which corresponds most closely with the number of people who have visited my site. Please let me know how to interpret the other numbers, if you are an expert...)
You can see three peeks: September 2006, December 2006, and June 2007. Not surprisingly, I arranged my last big Hospitality Club events exactly at these times. :) Click here for more info about those events.
On September 14, 2007 I added the NeoCounter from Neoworx. You can see it on the right hand side of every page. NeoCounter is "an innovative and unique web counter that displays your visitors on your website by country". Tip: Click on a flag to see its map! You may have to adjust your browser (or flash, or something like that) settings in order to allow the script to run. Don't worry, it's safe :-) Do you like it? Please give me some feedback.
Note: The counter presently looks different and doesn't work like it is supposed to... Trying to fix it... |
