Why should you join The Hospitality Club?
Dear friends!
My intention in this letter is to tell you about The Hospitality Club. I have been a member now for over three years and actively participating and contributing to its activities for about a year. The idea of the club is to foster international friendship, enable face-to-face meetings of people from different cultures, and offer free accommodation. Today, there are already over 320.000 members worldwide. I believe in The Hospitality Club as a means of strengthening peace (read more about fostering peace here). Thus, I would like to spread the idea and tell you more about it. Please read on and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. (inbox@tilmanbauer.eu) You find more information and the sign up link at the homepage: www.hospitalityclub.org.
The Hospitality Club is a non-commercial project (it does not cost anything) aimed at increasing intercultural understanding. Members can browse other members' profiles in the internet and contact them through the site. Thus, tourists and travelers can contact local people in order to experience intercultural exchange and the local way of life. Furthermore, members can contact other members also in the hometown in order to find new friends; the club is not just about traveling but it seeks to bring people together. Often active members arrange more or less big meetings in cities and even in smaller places all around the world. (Check out my HC Meetings Page for all the meetings I have organized.) Many members choose to use the club just to meet interesting people at these meetings/parties/gatherings etc.
The membership in The Hospitality Club does not require you to do anything if you do not like to. You may use it just to get free accommodation or any other kind of help while traveling. You do not have to host anybody if you feel uncomfortable with that. Everybody can join the club. One needs to provide the real name and an existing address in order to prevent fakes (not real persons, individuals that are already members...) from joining. However, these data do not have to be visible in the member's profile. Naturally, the profile will not be visible to non-members (nor to Google), unless you change the default preferences.
So why is The Hospitality Club so great? Because it gives you the chance to meet awesome people! All members share the common characteristic of willing to help strangers. I have experienced so many wonderful moments with members of this community of friendly people all over the world. An example: In June 2006 I went to the Nordkapp in Norway (the most northern point of Europe and the most northern village of the world). I contacted a member from the Honningsvåg village with just 200 inhabitants. He invited me to his house and gave me a free tour because he was an official Nordkapp Guide. Another example: Some people arranged a meeting in Berlin on July 9, the day of the FIFA soccer world cup final. We watched the game together on the "fan mile" with about 20 people from many countries. We had such a great time together! We all met for the first time but it was like meeting old friends because we shared the spirit of willing to meet people. A third example: During the summer 2006 we also had a meeting of over 60 members from over 20 countries in the Nuuksio forest near Helsinki. We spent the weekend in a cottage at a lake with a sauna and a campfire. The atmosphere was simply fantastic!
I could name many more examples but I think (hope) that you got my point. Feel free to ask me any questions, surf around the homepage www.hospitalityclub.org and click on the links on the left (Tour, Experiences, About us.), sign up on the homepage, join the club, and see for yourself that I am not exaggerating when I say that The Hospitality Club is awesome! :)
I genuinely hope that many of you join the club and help to spread the word.
Yours sincerely,
Tilman Bauer
